Weekly Update – July 2, 2008

Message from the Rector:

Dear Friends in Christ,

We are sending out the update early this week as the office is closed tomorrow and Friday. Andy is now on a shortened week schedule and this week we decided to work the hours in three days rather than four. The regular week schedule will be something like Monday through Thursday
from 9 to 1 p.m. so remember to call the office in the morning if you have a message, etc. As you know, we may not be able to do as much in the office now so have patience with us as we all adjust to our new conditions.

To keep you up to date the Vestry leaders are still working on the land negotiations and we as yet have no news to report to you regarding this but I feel we are making great progress. Please keep
the team in your prayers as we keep going in this effort. We will report again to the congregation in a few weeks.

This Sunday is part  of the long weekend and what a great way to end it by coming to church! I have no idea if we will have a pianist or not as I cannot reach him. I think Yvonne is back from Europe but I don't want to rush her into anything - so let's pray on this too.  Though I have to say we all did a fine job last week with the familiar hymns and many thanks to Margaret for helping us along.

I wish you all a blessed Fourth, with safe travel if you are heading off and safe times here at home. It is a scary time with the fires and all and I hope people are not reckless with fireworks.
Please know if you have any concerns or just want to chat to call me at home as I will not be working in the office much this week (and my cell phone is dead!).
See you on Sunday!

Blessings,
Patti+

SAVE THE DATE: September 11 and 12!  yes, we are going to have an Art Show Fundraiser here at Good Shepherd thanks to Carol Lowrey and Anne Albano. We are asking artists to participate and the theme is Pasture of Heaven - it will be a gala and a fun event. And Carol and Anne may need some help! More details will come in the next few weeks.

In the pews this week:

We have put out some brand new Prayer Books.

How to open a new Prayer Book, or any new hardcover book: Hold it upright spine-down (that's the edge with the stamped title) on the back of the pew in front of you.  While still holding it upright, carefully separate and turn one hard cover down flat on the pew, then carefully turn down the other. (Keep on holding the pages upright.)  Continue to hold the pages in one hand while you open a few leaves at the back, then a few at the front, and so on, alternately opening back and front, gently pressing open the sections till you reach the center of the volume. Do this two or three times and you will obtain the best results. Open the volume violently or carelessly in any one place and you will likely break the back!

Parish Announcements:

Tonight: COGS BARBEQUE III: Be sure to come with something for the grill and a dish to share (and something to drink and your own place setting...) and join your friends for a relaxed time together.

Summer Sunday School at COGS:   On Sunay,   will be offering an array of awesome activities for our COGS kids during 9 o’clock worship services throughout the summer months.  Thanks to many adults who have offered to help, the kids will have opportunities to learn new songs, go on a nature hike, make puppets, play games and more!
