Chapel September 25

For the first couple of weeks, I spend Chapel Time in the classrooms and on the playgrounds so the children can get to know me and get used to being at school.  Last week, we had our first Chapel together. Chapel is the time when we pay special attention to the presence of God.  Getting ready to come close to God is big work, so we take slow breaths, find our calm bodies, and sing “The Love of God is in this place.”

For the first week, I showed the children pictures of my family, and we talked about our families at home, at school, and in the world. This week, we talked about the figures of The Holy Family who are always on the focal table during Chapel.  When we wondered what everyone’s favorite part was, nearly every person and animal was named - and a bear and a dinosaur.  Some children were drawn to the non-tangible parts of the story –riding the donkey, being outside at night, the angels’ singing, the moving star.

I was really impressed with how well even our littlest ones were able to sit in Chapel listening and participating. This is going to be a great year.

Blessings, Chaplain Angela
