Tutoring at San Pablo Seaside

Would you be interested in a New Years resolution that will positively affect you, the Church of Good Shepherd, the children of San Pablo Apostol Church in Seaside, and your community?

Come and join an enthusiastic group of volunteers who meet once a week for an hour with a child needing tutoring at San Pablo Church. There are presently 9 of us from COGS, and 6 more from St. Mary’s and St. Lukes, and several from San Pablo who are Involved with either mentoring or tutoring students from K - HS in math or English. The program is scheduled to exclude Holidays and does not continue through the summer months.

Most of us are simply mentoring, which involves listening, reading and discussing topics of interest with a student who is at a disadvantage because the adults in their home speak mainly Spanish and often cannot help them with their homework.  Our tutoring is providing extra time in parenting or grand parenting kids primarily because of these situations.  Only a few of our tutors, who are qualified, help students actually tutoring them in Math or English. Volunteers are always matched with a student that they feel comfortable working with in either case.

At the present time we have three new students, two fifth graders and one fourth grader, who have asked COGS for our help. We also need volunteer substitutes, in a case where the regular tutor cannot be there.

Please contact Bob Evans (415-254-7166) or Peg McIntosh (415-254-6916) if you have any questions or if you would consider this opportunity to serve these children.

Blessings to you all and a happy New Year
