The Blue Family will be meeting OUTSIDE starting Monday, March 4th.  Monday-Wednesday we will meet on the patio.  Thursday & Friday we will meet down in the sandbox.  If it rains, we will be in the Parish hall.  Please make sure your child uses the restroom before coming outside.  Also, please make sure your child has a jacket.  Layers are essential for the weather.

SWITCHAROO DAY! THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 8TH WE WILL SPEND OUR SCHOOL DAY AT THE GRANGE.  WHEN YOU BRING YOUR CHILD IN THE MORNING, YOU DROP THEM OFF AT THE GRANGE SITE WITH A SET OF EXTRA CLOTHES--DON’T FORGET SOCKS & SHOES PLEASE.  IF YOUR CHILD IS WEARING PULL-UPS, PLEASE BRING A FEW OF THEM AS WELL. IF YOUR CHILD STAYS FOR AFTERNOON ENRICHMENT WE WILL TRANSPORT CHILDREN BACK TO THEIR HOME SCHOOL AT 1:00 FOR REST AND ACTIVITIES.

 

Also, this week Tuesday, March 5th-Thursday, March 7th, we will have a Speech-Language Pathologist spending time in the classroom. If you have concerns about your child’s speech please let me know.  If you do NOT want your child evaluated please let me know as well.

 

Last week, we started assigning lunch buddies for the week.  We also started the Zoo Phonics program.  Now, we will start sending home the “What’s Inside Bag.”  Your child will bring a bag home.  They can put ONE item in the bag to bring to school the next day.  Then, they write 3 clues about the item.  The children try to guess what’s inside the bag. Please no electronics or weapons.

 

Science:   We will be sanding the blue table outside (got delayed with the wet weather) then hammering nails into a tree stump

 

Technology:  We are setting up a “Take-Apart” station where a few children at a time can use tools to take apart electronics

 

Engineering:  In addition to the big blocks and block shelf, we will have Legos and Duplo’s in the block area for building.  We will be adding Magna-tiles and gears as well.

 

Art: We will have car track art, “throwing paint” on a large paper on the fence, Pringle can marble art and baby pool ball art.  We will have Easels on the patio and an easel in the sandbox. Children have access to all of the free art materials on the shelf each day as well

 

Math: We introduced the “Uno” card game to the class using giant UNO cards.  This is a fun way to learn our colors and numbers. We have foam boards numbered 1-10 with holes to put the corresponding number of pegs, Matchbox car garage number matching game, Dinosaur color match and puzzle match, colored dogs and vehicles for sorting

 

Music: “My God is so Big!” “Mr. Sun” “I’ve been working on the railroad”

 

Literature: Parent/Grandparent/Special guest Readers--let me know if you would like to come in on a Friday at 12:50 to read a story to the class. Look for a sign-up sheet on the table.  We will be starting Robert Munsch books every Wednesday: “Alligator Baby,” “Good Families Don't,” “Too Much Stuff,” & “Just one goal” for the first month.

 

Dramatic Play:  Pizza shop in the playdough area--NEED PLAIN (COLORLESS) PLAYDOUGH FOR PIZZA DOUGH--Let me know if you can help!  Then after 2 weeks, we will have the construction hats, tools and tool belts out on the patio

 

Sensory:  Frog & turtle pond, cocoa shells with bugs and branches, dirt with seeds and gardening tools, fishing table, Marble maze in water, pipe builders in the water, monster trucks in dirt; Then tidepool, kinetic sand with molds, seeds for pouring and tea set in water, polymers with test tubes, ocean animals in water, Lincoln log table

 

Large Motor:  We will begin using the monkey bars in the sandbox.  We will also have an obstacle course set-up in the upper play area of the patio
