Michael Ipson, a longtime China expert, will speak at the Double Nickels Luncheon for those 55 and older on April 10. The luncheon begins at noon at Church of the Good Shepherd, 301 Corral De Tierra Rd, off Highways 68 between Monterey and Salinas.

Ipson will describe China’s economic achievements, its new direction under Xi Jinping and analyze the current trade war between the U.S. and China.

He began his study of China in 1966 as a UC Berkeley exchange student in Hong Kong. Following Graduate study of Chinese history, Ipson began a career in international banking, spending a total of 28 years in Hong Kong and China, including five years with the World Bank in Beijing. He continues to visit China on a regular basis, serving as a director of Chinese financial institutions. Double Nickels, a monthly luncheon of homemade food, is a service of Good Shepherd for the benefit of the 55 and older community. A donation of $5 is suggested but is not required.
