About Our Preschool
Good Shepherd Preschool warmly welcomes children of all races, family configurations, and religious backgrounds, including families with no religious affiliation. As a ministry of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, we are a play-based childcare center located at 301 Corral de Tierra Road in the scenic Corral de Tierra area off Highway between Salinas and Monterey, California.
Our Play-Based Curriculum
Play is the heart of our curriculum and hands-on learning. In our beautiful outdoor setting, we blend teacher-directed and child-directed activities to support each child’s natural curiosity and growth.
Our experienced teachers act as caring facilitators. They model positive learning strategies and offer gentle, on-the-spot guidance while children explore and discover at their own pace.
Child-directed learning happens through thoughtfully prepared learning centers placed throughout the classroom. Children choose activities based on their interests, building autonomy, independence, social skills, cooperation, and real-world problem-solving in a hands-on way.
We take a whole-child approach, nurturing development across all areas: social, emotional, large and small motor skills, and cognitive growth. With the support of experienced teachers and a rich, well-planned environment, every child actively constructs their own knowledge and understanding of the world.
Our Mission
As an Episcopal preschool located in the Pastures of Heaven area of Corral de Tierra (between Salinas and Monterey), we are committed to infusing our program with meaningful Episcopal Christian values as a ministry of the Church of the Good Shepherd. We celebrate the liturgical seasons through stories, colors, materials, and worship. Our program is built on the fundamental belief that children learn and understand their world best through joyful, purposeful play.
