Church of the Good Shepherd Preschool is open to children of all races, family configurations, religious backgrounds (or no religious affiliation). We are owned by the Church of the Good Shepherd. We are a play-based childcare center located in Salinas on Corral de Tierra Road.
Play Based Curriculum
Church of the Good Shepherd is a play-based childcare center in the Salinas area, putting into practice the knowledge and research that is available on children's brain development and how children learn best. We our located in the scenic, outdoor area of Corral de Tierra off of highway 68 in Salinas.
Play is the basis for our curriculum and our hands on activities. A childcare center with a play-based program encourages a mixture of teacher-directed and child-directed activities. Teacher-directed learning involves the teacher as a facilitator who models learning strategies and is consistently available for on-the-spot guiding.
Child-directed learning allows the child to assume responsibility for learning goals by offering learning centers. Learning centers are independent stations set up throughout the classroom by the teachers where children can self select based on interest to engage in learning. These centers provide children with opportunities for hands-on learning, cooperative learning, social interaction, real-life problem solving, and helps develop a sense of autonomy and independence.
In our program we focus on a whole child approach, looking at all areas of development: social, emotional, large and small motor, and cognitive. Each child constructs their own knowledge with the support of experienced teachers and a well planned, rich environment.
